"The president saved my life”

Move over MAGA. Today's acronym is MACFA -- Make America Cancer Free Again.

Don Bouvet of Stonington, Illinois, with a population of about 930 (smaller than Poca), received the diagnosis of bladder cancer last year. He needed chemo.

Correction: he needed money to pay for the chemo.

Bouvet's son Shane, 24, is a FedEx courier. He set up the GoFundMe account.

"Sadly my father has been battling cancer for some time now, and it has again returned. My father hasn’t been able to work as the cancer returned shortly after a back surgery," Shane wrote.

"Being the strong man that he is, he is ready to face this fight head on and still smiling, encouraging the family along the way. My father has again started chemo treatment in the hopes to win this fight against cancer.

"However if that does not work other measures may need to be taken. With that in mind, now is my chance to try and do something to give back to my father for the years of love and support he has given me. I have created this GoFundMe as a way to try and raise money to help my father with his expenses to keep his home & medical bills.

"So I ask friends, family, and everyone if you’re willing to support my father, my family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Even kind words & prayers are deeply appreciated in my father’s time of need."

Somehow, Shane also got in touch with the president -- and Donald Trump responded with a check for $10,000.

President Trump sent a personal check and not something from the taxpayer's kitty.

The son and father were ecstatic. The treatments worked. On Friday, Don Bouvet met the president, and they had a brief press conference. Bouvet said it was only the second time in his life he wore a suit.

I assume the other time was at his wedding because brides insist on them.

"The president saved my life, and I told him that," Bouvet told reporters.

This wasn't the first time Trump did something nice. His 45+ years in the public eye are full of stories like these. Some make the papers. Many do not.

Politicians will give millions to hospitals and universities.

Why not? It is someone else's money.

Plus, they get the building named after them as if it was their money.

And I suppose we could just have socialized medicine, where the care is free but the lines are long and the services are rationed. Look how public education, public housing, public transportation, and all those other government programs are working.

I mean the VA is nice and all, but thousands of vets died waiting for treatment.

We can do it the government way.

Or we can take care of our own.

The Lord said the poor shall always be with ye. There is a reason for that. Jesus did not march for Roman food stamps. He took a couple of loaves of bread and some fish and fed thousands.

Evangelicals get Donald Trump. Leadership is not just speeches. It's action. With President Trump, the actions speak louder than words.

Bigly.

From Leslie Eastman's review at Legal Insurrection:
Surber, a recovering journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been cataloging the #FakeNews that has been regularly offered as serious analysis of President Donald Trump’s actions, policies, and opinions. He has brought his enormous collection together in the longest, most serious book he has yet written: Fake News Follies 2017.
"Fake News Follies of 2017" is available on Kindle and in paperback.

Autographed copies are available. Email me at DonSurber@GMail.com for details. I am including a "director's cut." I'll email you back the original Chapter 1 that I cut because while the chapter was amusing, it really had nothing to do with the "Fake News Follies of 2017."

Ben Garrison did the cover and I am so happy with it. I told him what the book was about, sent him a copy of the manuscript, and he came up with a perfect cover. I am so pleased.

  2. But Obama did speak of a supporter who died and wanted to be buried in her Obama t-shirt, and I'm sure he sold it to her at a discount as a burial shroud, wouldn't he?

  3. Stories of his generosity trickle out but will never convince the Nevers and haters of his caring.

Name a Lefty who did something like that.

  5. If Obama had done that I wouldn't have needed to come here to read about it, Don. It would have been blasted from every outlet in the country.

  6. Jesus also said, in the Beatitudes:

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Sounds like Mr. T from where I'm sittin.

  7. Trump does share the wealth at needful times. Perhaps because he’s long known the provenance of the sentence: “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee.”
